Camp Scholarship Program
At Sunset Lake we believe that no child should be turned away due to financial need. Our Camper Scholarship Fund is available to families facing financial stress. We greatly appreciate those who make this fund possible through their generous donations.
Objective
Our Camper Scholarship Assistance Program offers children the opportunity to attend Sunset Lake Camp that would not be able to because of lack of funds.
The The Camper Scholarship Fund is targeted to those who have an individual request, but is not limited to one per family.
Application Process
Scholarship Guidelines and a 2010 Scholarship Request Form can be sent upon request or downloaded directly from this website. To obtain a form from this website, scroll over the words "Scholarship Guidelines" and "Scholarship Request Form" and click, the documents will download onto your computer.
The parent/guardian must review the Scholarship Guidelines to determine whether their camper is eligible. If the camper is eligible, the Scholarship Request Form should be submitted in writing to the Sunset Lake Camp office for review, along with a letter of recommendation from your church pastor or one of your child's teachers. (It should come from someone who knows your family on a personal basis and should be written on the appropriate letterhead.)
Once the application(s) is reviewed, the parent/guardian will be notified of the decision. If accepted, the camper may be registered online for his/her chosen week of camp or a Camper Registration form will be sent upon request. When registering for camp, please be prepared to submit the required $60, which includes the fifty dollar non-refundable registration fee.
Applications will be approved as funds are available. Please understand that scholarship funds are limited, therefore scholarships are awarded on a first come, first served basis. Because of our limited scholarship funds, we ask that all families contribute as much as possible to their child's camp tuition. This will enable more children to experience a potentially life changing week of camp at Sunset Lake!
Scholarship Guidelines
Eligibility for Scholarship
1. Evidence of lack of funds. Please include an explanation and a letter of recommendation from your church pastor or child's teacher.
2. Applicant Age: Youth camp age, as specified in each camp session.
Types of Scholarship
Sunset Lake Camp bases its decision to grant a partial or a full scholarship based on the need. Other factors may be involved; therefore, each request is considered individually. The minimum amount of money to be contributed by the family will be sixty dollars ($60). The amount of assistance given for each camp is based on a Base Camp fee.
1. Full Scholarship: Sixty dollars ($60) and any optional items (i.e. camp store monies, camper photo, DVD, cd, Camper Care Package or additional costs if attending Specialty or Summit Camps) are the responsibility of the camper. The balance of the camp fee is paid by the Camper Scholarship Fund.
2. Partial Scholarship: Sixty dollars ($60) and any optional items (i.e. camp store, camper photo, camper DVD, cd, Camper Care Package or additional costs if attending Specialty or Summit Camps), and the balance of the camp fee not covered by the Camper Scholarship fund are the responsibility of the camper.
Restrictions
1. The Camper Scholarship is issued for one week of camp per person. This does not include the $60 (of which $50 is non-refundable) registration fee.
2. Scholarships awarded may be applied towards any week of camp, excluding Family Camp.
3. The Camper Scholarship funds will be awarded to an individual for a maximum of two consecutive years. Campers who have received the scholarship for two years and would still like to apply would be reviewed for scholarship only on an "as funds are available status." This ensures as many campers as possible the opportunity of attending Sunset Lake Camp.
Sunset Lake Camp reserves the right to forfeit a scholarship for the following reasons:
1. Misrepresentation - A parent / guardian who intentionally misrepresents conditions or circumstances claiming a financial need, and Sunset Lake Camp becomes aware that a need does not, in fact, exist.
2. No response - A parent / guardian is required to register their camper within 21 days of being notified that they were granted a scholarship. If registration has not occurred within the required timeframe, the scholarship will be awarded to another eligible camper.
