Introducing New Plans for Summer Camp

Sadly, with current government guidelines and timelines for phasing back into “normal life,” the summer season at Sunset Lake Camp as we’ve known it will not be happening this year

A summer at Sunset Lake is always much anticipated by staff, children, teens, and families. We’re sorry that summer camp is suspended for the 2020 season. In a year filled with disruption, pain and loss, this is one more disappointment. We grieve the loss of our joint hopes and dreams for this summer.

Our leadership team has been pleading with God to show us a path forward during this difficult time. We’ve been asking: What does it mean for our camp family to belong in a disconnected world? How can we experience grace, community and adventure in a summer without camp? And most importantly, how can we help your family win this summer? We believe that in the middle of this pandemic, God is up to something and we don’t want you to miss it.

Earlier, we made four commitments to you: 1) We’re not going anywhere; 2) Our commitment to ministry is unwavering; 3) We will keep you informed; and 4) We will always be rooted in hope. Our confidence is in God who is bigger than any crisis. He cares about you and your family and He has a plan for your life.

Sunset Lake will be assembling a small core group of young adult leaders who will spend the entire summer in ministry. Their engagement will remain fluid to adapt to weekly needs and public health allowances.

This core team of up to 7 individuals will seek ways to connect with your camp-age kids, re-imagine on-campus and off-campus camp programming, and, if allowed, develop overnight camp experiences for the entire family. Any offered on-campus programs this summer will be suggested donations only because we know many families are financially struggling during this pandemic.

To carry out this plan, Sunset Lake Camp needs an extra $20,000 by the end of May to hire this team for an unusual and unfolding summer. We appreciate the dedicated support of our camp friends. Working together, by God’s grace, we can fully embrace ministry opportunities this summer. Adventure, as always, awaits, and we can hardly wait to see what God will do.

You may donate by giving online at sunsetlake.org or adventistgiving.org. You may also call the camp at (360) 829-0311 to donate.

Parents and Guardians who already registered their camper for 2020 have three options:

  1. Cancel your registration for a full refund including the $50 deposit

  2. Rollover registration to lock-in a 2021 spot at this year’s prices

  3. Donate some or all of your camp fees to support camp ministry

We value each of our campers, guests, and user-groups, and we are committed to your continued health and well-being. We love being together with all of you, so this time of separation is hard. As soon as it is legally and safely possible, we look forward to welcoming you all back to Sunset Lake.
