The road to camp is the way to changed lives.
Every summer, campers come to Sunset Lake carrying questions, hopes, wounds, fears, and possibilities. Some ring the bell to mark a decision to accept Jesus as their Savior. Churches gather. Families reconnect. Guests are renewed.
Every one of these stories begins with a drive up the entrance road.
What Happened
In December 2025, a federally declared disaster damaged the entrance road and began culvert failure. In March 2026, a second atmospheric river overwhelmed the damaged crossing, sending water over and through the roadbed, causing erosion and further road failure.
Why this Matters:
Sunset Lake’s paved entrance road is the only safe, reliable, guest-appropriate access for normal camp operations. Limited back-gate routes exist, but they are unmaintained gravel roads used by ATVs, logging trucks, and gravel trucks. They are not appropriate for campers, families, churches, retreat guests, vendors, and emergency response.
What needs to be done
The repair will include replacing the failed culvert, rebuilding the damaged roadbed, stabilizing the slope, and restoring safe, long-term access to camp.
We need your support!
Insurance will not cover these damages and FEMA disaster assistance was not awarded because it is a private road. While final engineering work and bidding will determine final costs, expenses could reach or exceed $2 million - far beyond Sunset Lake’s operating capacity.
Your Gift
Opens the Way
In order to be able to repair the road before the winter rains return, our goal is to raise the funds to repair the road by the end of September with pledges coming in through the end of the year. Your gift will help restore the road, renew the mission, and keep the path open for changed lives.
